MAKING YOUR OWN DECISIONS

Decisions! We all have to make plenty of them every day in our lives. Some of them bigger than others. We must decide who we want to be spend our time with, what we want to wear and what we want to become when we're older. Even doing nothing and not deciding anything is a decision. Some of those decisions affect our lives and we always hear people talking about the decisions they regret the most. In the end, our lives are, kind of, just a collection of decisions. All those decisions follow us through our whole lives but are all of them really our decisions? Are we always deciding ourselves what we want and don't want to do? We are the ones making them most of the time but that does not mean that we don't get affected by other things before taking big decisions.

Often others' opinions influence us even if we tell ourselves that it doesn't matter what others think. No matter how hard we try though to follow our own thoughts and intuitions, in some way the opinions and statements will always be somewhere in the backs of our heads. It doesn't matter if we listen to them or act in the opposite way out of protest. One way or another what has been said affects us in some way and we let it influence our own decisions.

In the end, I don’t think you should always do what others tell you to do or expect from you. Nevertheless, we need to remember that our friends and family only want the best for us and may know us better than we do ourselves sometimes. While we imagine what we could do they have a real image of what we are like and are more likely to give good advice. All they want to do is help and we should appreciate that. If they say something, that might seem like an easy way to you, is better for you than consider it before storming of to show them you can get things done the hard way as well. Maybe the easier way is just what is better and nobody actually wanted to offend you. So what I want to say is that you have to make your own decisions in the end but consider the way others’ opinions may affect you before making important decisions you might regret.
